Caps, masks, respirators: head and respiratory protection

Caps, masks, and respirators protect workers and products from contamination. In food production, hairnets keep hair out of goods. Medical masks limit droplet infection. Respirators filter airborne particles — dust, fumes, aerosols. They are a mandatory part of hygiene clothing in many work environments.

Disposable caps

Caps (hairnets) are the cheapest and simplest way to meet hygiene standards. They come in several types:

  • Beret-style caps. lightweight with an elastic band, covering all hair. The most popular choice in food production
  • Clip caps (bouffant). sturdier, with an accordion structure, often used in operating rooms and laboratories and Mesh hairnets. breathable and comfortable for long wear in hot workshop environments

Medical masks

Three-layer disposable masks are standard in healthcare facilities, beauty salons, and anywhere with direct client contact. They filter bacteria and droplets but do not protect against fine particles or vapours.

Ear-loop masks are more convenient for short wear, while tie-on masks provide a tighter fit and suit longer procedures.

Respirators and protective masks

When air contamination exceeds what a basic mask can handle, a respirator is needed. FFP1 class suits dusty work, FFP2 handles fine particles and paint fumes, FFP3 protects against toxic vapours and viruses. Valved respirators are more comfortable for extended wear because breathing is easier.

In construction, woodworking shops, and the chemical industry, respirators are mandatory personal protective equipment.

Combine with other protective clothing

Caps and masks work best as part of a complete protection system. Disposable gloves protect hands, aprons and sleeve covers shield clothing, and shoe covers keep floors clean. Work gloves add extra protection where a stronger barrier is needed.

Workplaces with masks and respirators should also stock hand sanitiser, soap, and personal hygiene products. Tidy dispensing is handled by our dispenser range.
